Junia Awards

In 2024 the Association of Adventist Women will begin highlighting a yearly list of exceptional female church leaders in each division. Like Junia the apostle (Rom 1:16), AAW wishes to highlight women’s roles in nurturing and sustaining church life. This includes groundbreaking new roles for women and unique creativity in church growth. AAW wishes to encourage women who are leading in church groups and assure the world church that women have been fully accepted as holding up “half the sky” in most cultures in the Adventist church. Women may be the exception, but they are also exceptional. Many women will follow the calling God has placed on their hearts, inspired by the work of these women.

While Junia is the only woman referred to as an apostle in the biblical text, orthodox tradition records 26 early christian leaders as "Equal-to-the-Apostles." Eight are women; Mary of Magdala, Photini, Apphia, Thekla and the early evangelists Helen, Nina, Empress Nana and Olga.

We seek nomination of women who are establishing churches, maintaining and leading church groups or innovating in church growth at
